Children near Payatas, Manila who need sponsors today

A number of Filipino children start their education without a sponsor in place so that they can benefit from a full school year.

Here are 2 young children looking for their place to be sponsored today. Sponsors for these children are welcome from anywhere in the world.

Zeia

Birthday: December 23rd 2016

Grapevine Student

Opportunity;

Zeia turned 7 years old at Christmas.

He was one of the star pupils at Cashew Early Years School over the last 2 years and for that reason has earned his place as a Grapevine student to study at 'big school’.

His big passion is planes which fascinate him. Not surprisingly he dreams of becoming a pilot when he grows up. That might seem quite a challenge and a long way off right now but if he studies hard and does well at school then why not? Education is every child's right and the basis for future hope.

For now he lives at home with his older brother, his mum, who does odd jobs helping the neighbours, and his stepdad who works hard as a dish washer. Together they can just about afford a basic life in their shack made up of old bits of wood and corrugated iron. Grandmother lives next door and shares her water and electricity supplies with the family.  There is now a 3rd child on the way but unfortunately this blows a hole in the fragile household budget.

Support needed;

The Grapevine scholarship is now even more vital to ensure that Zeia does not drop out of school. To guarantee this in the long term Zeia requires a sponsor like yourself able to spare £25 per month- less than £1 every day. This Grapevine sposorship is just enough to keep the family together and Zeia happy at school. Can you help make Zeia's long term pilot ambition fly?

Mona

Birthday: April 15th 2017

Grapevine Student

Opportunity: After the birth of Mona 6 years ago her parents decided to move into Manila in the hope of a better life than they had in the countryside bringing their grandmother with them. City life hasn't entirely worked out as well as hoped. The family has struggled to find good jobs and a decline in health has meant that the grandmother now needs expensive medicines. Mum now has a job as a domestic worker some distance away in the city and she can only get home on her single day break every month. Dad earns less as a pedicab driver but at least that means he can cycle Mona to and from school. At home Mona is keen to help prepare the evening meal- money isn't always there for electricity so sometimes this means being careful beside the charcoal fire

Support needed:

Mona loves to sing and draw and even wants to be a teacher one day. Mona's teachers say that she is a fast learner who always takes part in class and particularly enjoys reading. Maybe that is why she would love to become a teacher helping children learn to read. She is an ideal Grapevine student who is taking as much as she can from her opportunity of education. Without Mum around, the Grapevine sponsorship is vital to ensure that she stays in school and does not drop out. Please could you be the sponsor who can keep this happening? £25 per month is enough to do this and ensure that she can achieve her, and her family's dream of becoming a teacher.
