Update on the Beneficiaries Affected by the Sitio Pintor Landfill Closure
In February, the landfill’s collapse and the resulting cease and desist order led to its immediate closure, bringing sudden and severe disruption to the lives of ASCF beneficiary families.
Families shared that they were no longer able to buy rice and necessities, and some went for weeks without any stable earnings. For households already living day to day, the closure brought real hardship very quickly.
The financial crisis extended to children, with some unable to attend school regularly due to lack of allowance and transportation. This highlights the broader impact of the livelihood disruption on children’s education and well being.
With their main income gone, families have had to rely on temporary work, small amounts of recyclable materials, and help from neighbours or relatives. Even then, income has remained very low and uncertain.
Thanks to the generosity of supporters who had given to previous emergency appeals, ASCF was able to provide food packs, rice, and basic groceries to affected families. This practical support helped them through a very difficult time and was deeply appreciated by those who received it.
